Photography Workshops

One Day Workshop

Throughout the year, Fossil Rim Wildlife Center offers 1-day photography workshop. The workshop will consist of the following: 2 hour classroom session which will cover different aspects of wildlife photography, a 4-5 hour tour including lunch. Cost: $149 per person.

Two Day Workshop

Throughout the year, Fossil Rim Wildlife Center also offers 2-day photography workshops that consist of a 3 to 4 hour classroom session which will cover different aspects of wildlife photography; a tour conducted during dusk for the best light possible; dinner at our Foothills Safari Camp, evaluation of the days photos by the instructor, an overnight stay in a tented cabin at Fossil Rim Wildlife Center’s Foothills Safari Camp, a tour conducted during dawn for the best light possible, breakfast at our Foothills Safari Camp and a sack lunch. Cost: $450 per person.

The start time is 2:00 on Saturday and the end time is 4:00 on Sunday. These workshops are for adults age 21 and up. A minimum of 3 people are needed, with a maximum of 12 people in the class.

Things to Bring:

Required: Each photographer’s needs vary, but the basics include: camera – digital SLR (ideal) or film SLR
Optional: Short zoom lens, 24-70 mm is a good range, medium length zoom lens; 80-200 mm is fine, telephoto lens in the 300 mm range, telextender or converter for additional reach. (With most animal images 200 mm is ideal at this facility), tripod or monopod for camera stability, lots of film or memory cards, spare batteries, laptop to review images at the group session, binoculars, USB drive to transfer pictures to instructor’s laptop for review and evaluation.

The Council for Environmental Education (CEE) is a nationally recognized leader in environmental education, providing programs and services that promote stewardship of natural resources and further the capacity of learners to make informed decisions.

Fossil Rim Wildlife Center is proud to be providers of the programs developed by this council. The Council for Environmental Education programs is listed below.

 


Project WILD is one of the most widely-used conservation and environmental education programs among educators of students in kindergarten through high school. It is based on the premise that young people and educators have a vital interest in learning about our natural world. A national network of State Wildlife Agency Sponsors ensures that Project WILD is available nationwide – training educators in the many facets of the program. Emphasizing wildlife because of its intrinsic value, Project WILD addresses the need for human beings to develop as responsible citizens of our planet.


Growing Up Wild that builds on children’s sense of wonder about nature and invites them to explore wildlife and the world around them. Through a wide range of activities and experiences, Growing Up WILD provides an early foundation for developing positive impressions about the natural world and lifelong social and academic skills.

Fossil Rim Wildlife Center is certified to hold workshops for all Project WILD workshops. These include:

  • Project WILD
  • Project WILD Aquatic
  • Science and Civics: Sustaining Wildlife
  • Growing Up WILD.

We hold educator workshops throughout the year. If you are interested in a workshop contact us at 254.897.2960 and ask for the Programs Coordinator for Teacher Workshops. If we do not have a workshop scheduled and you know of at least 10 people that would like to become certified, we can schedule a special workshop just for your group. A workshop at your facility is also a possibility.


Project Learning Tree (PLT) is an award-winning environmental education program designed for teachers and other educators with students in pre-kindergarten through grade 12. PLT is correlated to the K-12 Math, Science, Social Studies and Language Arts Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS). PLT is also correlated to the National Science and Social Studies Standards; Girl Scout curriculum; and North American Association for Environmental Education (NAAEE) Guidelines for Learning. PLT workshops can be arranged at a variety of times and locations, including weekends, during the workday or immediately after the school day is over.

Fossil Rim Wildlife Center is certified to hold workshops for all Project Learning Tree workshops. These include:

Fossil Rim Wildlife Center is authorized through the State Board of Educators as a provider for continuing education credits in Life, Earth and Physical Science.

Fossil Rim Wildlife Center cooperates with the Texas Environmental Education Advisory Committee by offering workshops for teachers that are correlated with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills and that include hands-on laboratory and field experience.
