Q: Do you have any training programs at Fossil Rim?

A: Yes, we have several intern positions available throughout the year. For more detailed descriptions please check out “internships” on our website.

Some examples of our internships:

 
 
Avian internships are offered in the Spring and run through the Summer of each year. Avian interns will assist the Avian Supervisor with the daily record keeping, cleaning and care of Attwater's Prairie Chickens and Japanese Red Crown Cranes.
Children's Animal Center internships are offered in the Spring, Summer and Fall of each year. Interns will assist with daily cleaning and care of the Children's Animal Center animals, including but not limited to: Blue & Gold Macaws, Eclectus Parrot, Emu, Bare-eyed and Moluccan Cockatoos, African Spurred and Texas Tortoises, Pygmy, Nubian, Angora, and Boer goats as well as the Ocelot. Interns will also be responsible for maintaining Nature Trail areas located in the vicinity.
Environmental education interns learn to do guided tours for families making use of twelve passenger vans and smaller jeeps. They also work with school and scout groups in a variety of learning activities. They present short lessons on chemical capture techniques, radio telemetry methods, poisonous arthropods, natural dyes and inks, fossils and much more. This wide variety of teaching opportunities and educational training provides the education intern with an exciting array of new skills and experiences. Training is provided by the education staff.
