Buy Your Antlers at Fossil Rim

It is estimated that we only find about 25% of the antlers the deer shed each year. The remainder are knocked off so far back in the woods that they are never found. That is okay, too. Squirrels, mice, and other rodents gnaw on them for calcium and to keep their continually growing teeth worn down to a suitable level.

These collected antlers from some of our Red Deer and Fallow Deer can be found for sale in our Nature Store, at the Front Gate, and at the Lodge office for those guests to examine. The price for these unique items is $15 per pound. Now I can hear some of you asking “Just why would I want a deer antler, anyway?” Let me give you some suggestions as to what uses others have found for them.

• Make into lamps or candle holders
• Use for knife handles
• Buttons
• Pet chews
• Pins
• Hat racks
• Jewelry hangers
• Table centerpieces
• They are used in flint knapping (making arrows from stone)
