Prairie Chicken Update
by
Janet Johnson – Avian Supervisor
continued from main newsletter
We have increased
our total number of pairs from 17 last year, to 24 this year.
The majority of
the roosters are displaying
and we collected our first egg on the 24th of March. To date,
we have 190 eggs. If all goes well, we should have our first "little
guys" the last week in April.
25 of March:
The Sandhill Cranes have two eggs in a nest on their favorite island
behind the Safari Camp. The nest is precariously close to water's
edge, so we'll keep our fingers crossed. The cranes take turns
sitting on the nest, this is why you see only one bird walking
about, while driving through the park. |
