Volunteer Update

She lives in Cleburne with her husband and 12 year old daughter. When the call center announced that it would be closing Tamara ran across this position opening on line as she was looking up information to bring her daughter down for a visit.

Tamara says she loves people and animals and finds this the perfect situation for her. She is looking forward to bringing more volunteers, organizing those who are here currently and improving the quality of visits for our guests. She hopes to also improve the quality of visits for volunteers with increased volunteer incentives and recognition.

Tamara loves to travel. She spent two months in Greece in 1997 doing an archeological survey. On her week off while there she took a trip to Egypt. Ireland was her destination the following year so she could visit some of the other participants she had met on the Greece trip. Her 2002 trip took her to England where she got to visit Stonehenge and Bath before heading to Scotland, Loch Ness and Wales then taking the ferry to Ireland. Two more trips to this area followed (one with her daughter) before venturing to Japan last year. They went to Tokyo and Nikko where she got to see the original carving of the 3 monkeys (see no evil). Tamara tells me she is now saving for her next trip which will be to Australia.

Come say “Hello” and welcome Tamara to Fossil Rim. At that time you can also let her know the type of volunteering at Fossil Rim in which you would like to participate.

Fossil Rim volunteers hard at work during a recent project.

Did You Know...
"Volunteers help themselves to better health while helping others, according to a study release by the Corporation for National and Community Service that reviews a compelling collection of recent scientific research.

The Health Benefits of Volunteering: A Review of Recent Research has found a significant connection between volunteering and good health. The report shows that volunteers have greater longevity, higher functional ability, lower rates of depression and less incidence of heart disease."

As if being at Fossil Rim among the animals and in the company of good people wasn’t enough of a reason to volunteer out here, now we find that this process of volunteering can improve your health. What are you waiting for? Call Tamara at 254.897.2960 x 211 today and sign up to do some good for endangered species, broaden your social contacts, have a great time and live longer too.
