Touch a Heart / Save a Species

Volunteers are an indispensable part of our organization. Our volunteer program was started in 1984 by four women who volunteered for the Fort Worth Zoo. Only one of those people has chosen to drop out of the volunteer program in the ensuing 22 years. I think this speaks volumes about how much fun we have while supporting a most worthwhile organization. Many of our volunteers choose to become tour guides. A great number of volunteers believe that is the most fun thing to do. You get to meet some really wonderful people, enjoy the great outdoors and get pretty up close and personal with the fabulous animals that call Fossil Rim home.

If speaking in front of groups is not for you then we can help you find another spot such as helping out at the Children’s Animal Center, assisting with various office duties, working with our special events, lending a hand at some of our camp programs or even doing things such as trail maintenance, painting or building. Whatever your skill level or interest we can find a place for you to reward yourself by making a difference.

The month of February is our major training session at Fossil Rim. Each Saturday from 9:00 AM until 4:00 PM we have staff members introduce you to the history and purpose of Fossil Rim, our affiliations to keep us at the top of our league in animal husbandry, and customer service. You will also learn about the animals we care for, how we care for them, and other things that will prepare you to become an ambassador for our mission of breeding endangered animals and educating the public about them.

If you would like to join a fun group and give back to the world please call 254.897.2960 ext. 209 and inquire about our volunteer program. You may also e-mail irisb@fossilrim.org to receive information on entering into a life-changing experience. I hope to hear from many of you.
