| Meet
Holly Haefele
Holly
Haefele is Fossil Rim’s lead Veterinarian. She was born in New Jersey
and moved to Massachusetts at age 4. She did a wildlife internship
in her junior year of high school where she worked in the wildlife
clinic at Tufts University. Her undergraduate thesis was on feral
horse behavior, which she studied while living in tents for 2 months
on an island in North Carolina with 6 other students. She graduated
from Tufts University in 2000 with a degree in Veterinary medicine
and started her career as a small animal associate in Massachusetts
in August of 2000. During her last year in vet school she came
out to Fossil Rim as a Preceptor in the spring of 1999 and was
subsequently hired in April of 2004. She took over the lead vet
position from Dr. Robin Radcliffe when he moved back to the Northeast
this summer.
Holly
likes the country setting of Glen Rose and bought a home near the Paluxy
where she lives with her whippet “Sierra”.
In her spare time she likes to mountain bike, hike, kayak and ski.
At
the 2005 American Association of Zoo Veterinarians conference
in Omaha she presented a paper on fallow deer anesthesia. In the
fall of 2005 she had her first article published “Hematologic
and physiologic reference ranges for free-ranging adult and young
Common Loons” in the Journal of Zoo and Wildlife Medicine.
We are fortunate to have Holly as part of our Fossil Rim team.
And wish her the best in assuming her first full year as lead vet.
The
responsibility and duties are tremendous but she has proved she
is up to the challenge. |
