Wildebeest
Connochaetes taurinus
Wildebeest
are the animals that most of our younger guests can identify.
(Did you see The Lion King?) They rather resemble the
product of a committee that couldn't quite reach a collective
decision. Continued

The
Local Scene
Snow-on-the-mountain
Euphorbia marginata
There aren’t nearly as many flowers blooming at this
time of year as in the spring so the snow-on-the-mountain really
stands out. Look for tall stems that branch out with a white
flourish near the top. Leaves are oval shaped and nearly stemless.
They are close to the primary stem on alternating sides. Continued |

Fossil Dig
Are there any aspiring paleontologists (fossil-hunters) in your family? Have
you ever wondered why we’re called Fossil Rim Wildlife Center? After
a brief introduction to fossils, so that you will know what you’re looking
for, we’ll head off to one of our fossil pits and dig in! You’ll
be able to keep at least a couple of the fossils that you find. After the dig,
we’ll take you on a guided tour through the Game Preserve, where the
giraffes and zebras live, and up to Cheetah Hill. Continued |

Q: Where
is the best place to stay when coming to Fossil Rim?
A: Believe
it or not, Fossil Rim has a “Bed and Breakfast” on
site! We run the Lodge (the former owner’s residence),
which is a three-story limestone home, featuring five bedrooms
(two with a Jacuzzi and three with a fireplace). There is also
the “Foothills
Safari Camp” that consists of 7 tents
with twin beds, a full bath and a ceiling fan. All are equipped
with heating and air conditioning. Continued
