Fall Event Line Up

Fall is finally here and it’s time to get back to nature. There are several Fall Events planned at Fossil Rim to enhance your outdoor fun. We have Discovery After Dark tours coming up for your evening pleasure. You may join one of the exhilarating Ride The Rim excursions, enjoy a special Member’s Only event (sold out) and October 28th we have a Trick or Treat Tour in the works. December will offer Dinner Around the Rim (sold out) and you may join in on our ongoing Encounter Series. If you’ve got the time and desire we’ve got the fun experiences for you.

Recommendations made for Fossil Rim to breed specific addax for the Species Survival Plan (SSP) for 2007. continued

Fossil Rim working on bringing in a bull Bongo to breed with three females, here since 2004. continued

Three Addra Gazelles (formerly called Dama Gazelles) coming from Florida October 6th. continued

Kusamona had a growth on his back that we biopsied and were worried about being cancerous. continued

With the colder weather around the corner we will be planning to bring white rhinos to the barn soon. continued

Our new giraffe bull is settling in nicely and breeding with the giraffe herd, so we hope to have giraffe calves on the ground soon–well, 15 months from now anyway. continued

We continue to work on the fallow deer population situation at Fossil Rim. continued

 
 

How Animals Teach Conservation

When I was a child, I had a great dog by the name of Wiggles (her name is a whole other story!) and I wanted Wiggles to sleep in my bed. I couldn’t really understand how my father could say no! To me, the dog was as much a part of the family as my brother and sister… more if the truth were told! Eventually my father said that when I had my own house, my dog could sleep in my bed and she does. continued

Trick or Treat Tour - Saturday October 28

This Halloween fun will begin at the front gate with a 92.1 KTFW Country Gold live broadcast from 3:00 until 5:00. We will have a costume contest and a cake walk for your fun and pleasure. continued

Fossil Rim Wildlife Center Has Joined the Eco-Cell Phone Recycling Program

Old cell phones and cell phone batteries as well as chargers are accepted, no matter what brand or how old. The phones and accessories will be completely recycled, resulting in a donation to Fossil Rim.

There are collection boxes located at our Visitor Center and our Overlook area. Just drop them in. If you cannot bring the phones, you may also mail them to Eco-Cell and indicate Fossil Rim as the recipient of the donation. You will find instructions on how to mail the phones at www.eco-cell.org along with information on how you can make a difference toward conservation and supporting Fossil Rim by just recycling your old cell phones. Also, your donation can be a tax deduction!!

Homeschool Event - Animal Enrichment
Monday, November 13

Time: 10:00 - 2:30 (approximate end time)

Where: Eco Center at the Overlook Area

Cost: $16 per person* (under 2 are free)

10:00-12:00: Animal Enrichment Class
Investigate the process of Animal Enrichment for animals in captivity. A look at how Fossil Rim keeps its animals happy and entertained. Participants will make toys for the animals (particularly the wolves, birds, and possibly the ocelot at the Overlook area) as part of their enrichment program. Bring 1 empty paper towel tube per person

12:00-1:00: Lunch break. Bring a sack lunch

1:00-2:30ish: Guided Tour of Fossil Rim Wildlife Center

Rules & How to Enter

Our $99 lodge special is booked up through the winter on weekend nights, but we have weekday nights available. Start the weekend early, come on a Thursday and sip on some hot cocoa while you watch the moon come up and later gaze at the stars.
