A message from Dr. Pat Condy, Fossil Rim's Executive Director

I wish to thank all our supporters for joining our conservation and education efforts during 2007. This has been a good year for us and we are grateful that you have chosen to be part of our mission.

2007 has seen much positive transpire, including:

 •

The arrival of a new zebra species, the Hartmann's Mountain Zebra, originally from Namibia in Africa. This makes Fossil Rim one of few places that has all 3 living species of Zebra, two of which (Mountain Zebra and Grevy's or East African zebra) are endangered while the 3rd (the Plains or Common or Burchell's zebra) is still pretty abundant in Africa.

 • Reintroduction of Addax and Scimitar-Horned Oryx to Tunisia which is part of their native range: and Attwater's Prairie Chickens to their native habitat right here in coastal prairie Texas.
 • Arrival of additional Addra gazelle (of sub-Saharan Africa) and Roan antelope (of southern Africa) to our small starter populations established in 2006, being bred for possible reintroduction to their native ranges in due course.
 • New Cheetah houses in the Intensive Management Area, so as we can ramp up breeding at that facility.
 • Positive trends in many areas of Fossil Rim's business, such as visitor numbers up about 12%, increased sales at the Nature Store and Overlook Café, increased attendance of our educational programs and on our variety of guided tours, and increased members.

As good as 2007 has been, I am anticipating an exciting 2008. Foremost, everything seems to be on track for the transfer to us of the land we operate on, very early in the new year. This is a huge gift - not just in dollar terms but perhaps even more significantly in changing our status from lessee to owner, so ushering in a degree of stability we’ve never had and a long term future for Fossil Rim! And when this happens, some major financial donations waiting upon it will materialize! So I anticipate that starting in 2008 Fossil Rim will be able to embark on a crucial development phase over the next few years, so as to better serve our visitors and our mission of wildlife conservation and conservation education.

I want to reiterate how much we value each of our supporters. We have a challenging but rewarding job ahead of us, and we could not achieve these accomplishments without your continued loyal patronage.

Wishing you all the best this holiday season,

Dr. Pat Condy
Executive Director

The Lodge and Safari Camp Announce Off-Season Rates

Come and enjoy the magic of Fossil Rim Widlife Center during the Fall and Winter months.  Due to the milder temperatures the animals are more active.  And did you know that many of our animals will be in rut, including one of our “volunteer“species, the native white tail deer? So come and relax around the fire pit at the Foothills Safari Camp or just curl up in front of one of the fire places in The Lodge and share this special time with us. Click to Continue
