Go back
to school with nature as your teacher
Before
your send your children back to school, bring them out to
Fossil Rim
where you can get a head start on learning
with nature as their teacher. Research has shown that we do
better mentally and physically with nature’s influence,
don’t let this be a neglected part of your children’s
education. We have beautiful scenery as a complimentary backdrop
for endearing animals that will put you and your children back
in touch with the earth and all its glory. Experience the wonders
of diverse species and their interactions. Observe the beauty
of colorful flowers. Marvel at the joy on children’s
faces as the giraffes gently take a food pellet from them.
End the summer with a wondrous experience for all the family.
I’ll
be looking for you, |

So
Long to a Fossil Rim Favorite
by
MaryJo Stearns - Wednesday, July 26, 2006
Yesterday
we had to euthanize our female maned wolf Katie. As most
of you know, Katie was one of our longtime residents.
She arrived at Fossil Rim from Baton Rouge Zoo in 1991
when she was eight months old. Being hand raised, Katie
was very comfortable around people and would vocalize
loudly when people approached her. continued

Education
Enrichment
By
Iris Broyles, Education Director
The
Education Department at Fossil Rim is experiencing a metamorphosis
that sustains the valuable elements, while transforming the
outdated elements into new thriving programs.
The philosophical
foundation for the changes stems from the belief that enlightenment
regarding the pleasures of outdoor life, and the stewardship
of nature should arrive from a multitude of paths. continued

Hummingbirds

While
scanning Fossil Rim Wildlife Center scenery for animals
big and tall, be sure to keep an eye out for the very
small.
Flitting
