Would you like to make a donation and help us out this Spring?

It’s April – the month best known for those showers that help bring out all the May flowers! Speaking of water, our visitors often ask how the animals at Fossil Rim get enough water - especially in the hot, Summer months. Check out this month's Q&A for the answer! Also, don't forget to check out our contest for a chance to win a delightful 8x10 matted print. April is a great time to come out to see the wildflowers. Just remember - the bluebonnets bloom early and are gone more quickly than some of the others you will find here, so plan to visit us early in the month so you don’t miss out!

Distinguished Resident: Addax

Sometimes in Texas we don’t get as much rain as we need and often a rancher’s livestock will suffer the consequences. They need to take a lesson from the Addax; one of Fossil Rim’s endangered species. Addax are the most desert adapted of all antelopes. Continued

Cheetah Chatter: Animal Updates

Holly Haefele, DVM let me know she is going to be very busy this month. It is time to trim the hooves on Big Cow, one of our female giraffes. While we don't think much about trimming our toe nails, when you are considering doing this for a giraffe it is a different story. Continued

Q: How do the animals at Fossil Rim get enough water?

A: We have multiple earthen water impoundments (tanks or ponds) located throughout the property. Also, we have one tank that is fed via a natural seep. Continued
