August 11th, Saturday: Back to School Dinner and Safari
(Overnight Guests and local residents)

Enjoy hamburgers, hot dogs and all the fixings picnic style at the Foothills Safari Camp. Play games, enjoy live entertainment and board an open-air vehicle to tour the Wildlife Center at sunset.

Space is limited.

When: Dinner served at 6:30 and tour at 8:00 pm.
Where: Pavilion at Foothills Safari Camp
Cost: $65.00 per person includes dinner, sunset tour in an open-air van and a special back to school “goodie bag” for the kids.

August 12th, Sunday: Race for Survival: Cheetahs

Have you ever wondered what makes a cheetah so fast? Then come join us at Race for Survival! The fun activities will include a craft, game, and even a short guided tour to visit the cheetahs!

Recommended for ages 5-9.

When: 2:00 - 4:00 pm
Where: Eco Center at the Overlook
Cost: $25 per 1 child with adult. $10 per each additional person. No more than 2 adults per child, please.

August 31st, Friday: Discovery after Dark

Discover nocturnal animal adaptations, the animals’ relationship with the moon, Native American stories, and more! Go on a guided after dark adventure that will feature nocturnal wildlife at Fossil Rim.

Not recommended for children under 5

When: 6:00 - 9:00 pm

October 14, Sunday: Wild about Wolves

Are you ready for a howling good time? Then lead your pack to Fossil Rim for an encounter with wolves. Crafts, stories, games, and more, plus a guided tour to visit Fossil Rim’s wolves – the two most critically endangered types of wolves in the Americas.

Recommended for ages 5-9.

When: 2:00 - 4:00pm

October 20, Saturday: Family Fossil Dig

Are there any aspiring paleontologists (fossil-hunters) in your family? Have you ever wondered why we’re called Fossil Rim Wildlife Center? After a brief introduction to fossils, so that you will know what you’re looking for, we’ll head off to one of our fossil pits and dig in! You’ll be able to keep at least a couple of the fossils that you find.

Recommended for all ages.

When: 10:00am – 12:00pm
Cost: $20 per person.

Please dress appropriately for weather and walking. You are welcome to bring excavation tools, such as child-size shovels and picks, as well as buckets and brushes.

October 26, Friday: Discovery after Dark

Discover nocturnal animal adaptations, how animals use the night sky, Native American stories, and more, all through interactive learning experiences! Go on a guided after-dark adventure that will feature both the exotic and native nocturnal wildlife at Fossil Rim.

Recommended for ages 5 to adult.

When: 6:00 - 9:00pm
Where: Eco Center at the Overlook
Cost: $45 per person. Includes admission to Fossil Rim’s scenic drive-through.

November 11, Sunday: Operation Oryx

How do these beautiful antelope survive in areas with very little water? What do oryx have to do with African celebrations and unicorns? How did “Operation Oryx” save this graceful antelope from extinction? You’ll find out all this and more, while participating in activities such as crafts, stories, and a short guided tour to visit Fossil Rim’s oryxes.

Recommended for ages 5-9.

November 17, Saturday: Nature Detectives

What animals have been here? Who made that track? What plants did this leaf come from? Learn to use clues from nature to solve mysteries in the great outdoors. As a Nature Detective, you’ll learn all about our local wildlife and the clues they leave behind. Plus, you’ll learn about outdoor and trail safety, you’ll get to go on a short nature hike, and you’ll have a chance to make crafts using natural materials.

Recommended for ages 4-6.

When: 10:00am – 12:00pm

November 24, Saturday: Fossil Rim Family Fun Day

Special activities will be available at Fossil Rim’s Overlook and/or Visitor Center. Activities may include crafts, touch tables, games, animal displays, guided hikes, and other hands-on fun for the whole family.

Activities are free with paid admission to Fossil Rim and will be offered from approximately 11:00am to 4:00pm.

December 9, Sunday: Rockin’ With the Rhinos

What’s black and white and gray all over? Rhinos, of course! Come learn about Fossil Rim’s black rhinoceros and white rhinoceros and what’s being done around the world to help these endangered animals. Participate in rockin’ rhino activities and go on a guided tour for an encounter with Fossil Rim’s crash of rhinos that you’ll never forget.

Recommended for ages 5-9.
