Studying under several well-known local teachers, Lauren has also had watercolor training with nationally recognized instructors, such as Tom Lynch, Terry Madden, Carol Orr, Ted Nuttall, Betsey Dillard Stroud, David Drummond and Ken Hosmer. Her style often represents realistic subject matter boldly painted with shapes and values arranged in almost abstract patterns. Working in transparent watercolor on absorbent paper and mixed media on matte medium surface, she paints a variety of subjects including abstract southwestern designs, florals, animal life, portraiture, still lifes and landscape. She teaches watercolor classes at The Artist Studio at Hoffmantown Center in Albuquerque for all levels, emphasizing Design through Shapes and Value.

Past President and Signature Member of the New Mexico Watercolor Society, Lauren is a frequent award winner in their juried exhibits and Masterworks of New Mexico. In addition, she exhibits annually in such shows as Weems, the New Mexico Arts and Crafts Fair, where she served as an Art Representative for their Board for 3 years, and the Rio Grande Arts Festival. 2006 marked her sixth annual Studio Home Show in December, which featured the works of her students in addition to her own.

Lauren’s work, exhibition dates and class schedule may be viewed on her website: laurenjohnsonartist.com.

Lauren has generously donated hundreds of dollars worth of her prints to our nature Store. We certainly appreciate her thoughtfulness. If you would like to be the proud owner of one of Lauren’s 8x10 matted prints of a giraffe head be sure to enter our contest! See the box above for details.
