"Jurz" reaching up with the big guys

• Noa, who was born on September 22 weighing around 120 lbs and standing at 6 feet is up to an estimated at 600 lbs and 9 feet tall.

• Jurz, born October 2nd weighing around 90 lbs and standing 5’3” has a little catching up to do at 250 lbs. and 6’3. You can imagine that it will be easy to tell them apart.

Their primary keeper, Cassie Patterson reports that Noa can reach the adults' feeding tubs, but we still have to hang low ones for Jurz so she can eat. Although both still nurse, they are mostly eating solid and browse (browse is their favorite!).

Here's one fun tidbit: since Jurz has to compete with everyone for food, she has developed her own strategy for getting her fair share: when another giraffe puts its head in the feed trough, Jurz immediately goes to chew on their eyelashes! Obviously, they find this very annoying, so they lift their heads up, and Jurz promptly returns to eating - very clever, if you ask me, and very entertaining to watch!
