Specialty Tours

Ride the Rim

Our Ride the Rim event tour offers a view of the park from your own bike. These tours are offered in Family, Moonlight, Beginner's and Experienced. On this tour you will ride your own mountain bike through the Intensive Management Area where the black rhino, wolves, cheetahs and other animals are kept. Where in the world can you ride your mountain bike to within 5 feet of a 2,000 lb. black rhino, have your picture taken with a wolf hiding in the bushes and see your kids stalked by cheetahs, safely? Fossil Rim's Ride the Rim Mountain Bike Tours, that's where. Plus, what a great way to get in shape, get out of the city, and get close to your family and friends. It's a blast and everyone should do it. And everyone CAN do it.

Photography Tours

Got the "Shutter Bug"? We have Photography tours, a four hour experience, conducted around dusk to give you the best light possible. You won’t find another place outside of Africa that offers this level of quality photo taking opportunities. Fossil Rim has some of the largest herds of rare animals left on the planet.

Photography tours come in two varieties: Publicly scheduled events with expert instructors, which are listed on our web site calendar and in our monthly newsletter. Also, Private Photography Tours where you provide your own guide or just come for the personalized photographic opportunity. For private tour information contact our reservationist at 254.897.2960.

Price: $65 per person

 

Private Price: *$100

 

* Example: a four person private tour would be $65 per person x 4, plus a one-time $100 private tour fee.

Recommended for ages 16 and up – reservations are required at least three days in advance.
Length: 4 hours
September – June – Tours are 3pm till 7pm
July – August – Tours are 4pm till 8pm
Transportation: Based on the number of tour guests, the open-air tour vehicle might be a jeep or van. All tours will meet at front gate of Fossil Rim.

Discovery After Dark

Enjoy the nocturnal beauty of Fossil Rim, watch the stars, and listen to the night-time sounds, as we venture out into the park at dark. We'll start with an interactive learning experience where you can discover nocturnal animal adaptations. Then, using spot-lights, we'll go on a guided after-dark adventure that will feature both the exotic and native nocturnal wildlife at Fossil Rim which will give you the opportunity to sit back, relax, and enjoy the night. Don't forget to check in the trees for the eye-shine of the raccoons; look closely to see if you can find a ring-tail cat. Enjoy an experience reserved only for those who are willing to venture out at night.

Recommended for ages 7 and up
This tour program is also available to groups of 12 or more on the date of your choice - call for availability.

Length: Approximately 3 hours, including the educational activities and presentation

Departs From: Eco-Center building at the Overlook.

Be Prepared: Be sure to dress for the weather. You may bring jackets, hats and water if you wish. Please do not bring any other food or beverage items. Please be aware that there are no restrooms on our tour route. Flash photography is not allowed after sunset.

Availability: Offered once a month, usually on a Friday night; advanced reservations required. Visit our calendar to find out upcoming dates.

Price: $47 per person

 

Price includes one cup of animal food per guest and admission to the Scenic Wildlife Drive which can be used the day of, or the following morning before 10 am.

Dinner Tours

Sweetest Day/Sweetheart Safari Dinner and Tour

Want to impress your special someone with a three-course meal, live music and then an evening tour? You and your sweetheart will depart the Foothills Safari Camp at 6:00 pm in one of our open air vehicles to take a Sunset Tour through Fossil Rim Wildlife Center. Upon returning to Safari Camp, the two of you will partake in a delicious “Surf and Turf” candle light dinner, with tea, coffee, homemade dessert and chocolate for your sweetheart. All served in our glassed walled pavilion overlooking one of the watering holes for our main pasture. After dinner, relax with your special someone and enjoy Michael Cote singing love songs for the remainder of the evening.

Adult Price: $90 per person

 

Adults Only. Pricing includes admission to the Scenic Wildlife Drive, which can be used the day of the Sweetheart Safari or the morning after (before 10:00am). Members receive a 10 percent discount. Holiday Around the Rim Dinner and Tour

Close-out the year with our Holiday Around the Rim Sunset Safari Dinner and Tour. It involves cookies, hot chocolate, appetizers, champagne, shopping, live music, exotic animals and THEN the holiday meal. Come and celebrate Christmas with Fossil Rim Wildlife Center. Meet at the Foothills Safari Camp Pavilion at 5:00 pm and be served cookies and hot chocolate. Then board one of our open air vehicles at 5:30 pm and travel through the Scenic Wildlife Drive to the Nature Store for holiday shopping, appetizers and champagne. At 6:30 pm, guests will then re-board the open air vehicles for a brisk evening safari to the glass walled pavilion at the Foothills Safari Camp, where you will enjoy a memorable holiday dinner, tea, coffee and a homemade dessert in front of the glowing fireplace, with live Holiday entertainment.

Adult Price: $90 per person

Child Price: $45 per person

Mother's/Father's Day Dinner and Tour

Show Mom and Dad how much they mean to you. Spend the evening at Fossil Rim Wildlife Center. We will start the evening with a delicious dinner, including tea, coffee and homemade dessert in the glass walled pavilion located in the Foothills Safari Camp over looking a watering hole in our main pasture. After dinner, you will board one of our open air vehicles to take a sunset tour of Fossil Rim Wildlife Center. A special gift for mom/dad is also included.

Child Price: $55 per person
